Since Moogfest’s move to Durham in 2016, local fans of multi-night, multi-venue festivals packed with top experimental rock and hip-hop acts have had no choice but to head to the flatlands to get their fill.
Our next opportunity awaits us this weekend (Sept. 7-10) at
Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh. The festival, just four hours down the road in our state capital, promises to be killer, with a head-turning bill topped by
Solange,
Run the Jewels,
Future Islands, Big Boi,
The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Asheville’s own
Angel Olsen.
The complete lineup features over 120 bands, including a few more Asheville jewels such as
Shane Parish,
Ahleuchatistas and
The Tills. It’s my inaugural journey to the eighth annual festival and I’m stoked.
If you’re also making the trip from Asheville I’d love to see and share your social media dispatches so hit me up
@ashevillegrit on Twitter and Instagram or use the hashtag
#avlgrit. (Of course I’d love to see you in person too)
In the meantime, Hopscotch has a
Handbook to help us plan our own adventures, and a
Spotify Playlist to listen to on the drive. You can also listen to Dr. Ali McGhee, Michele Scheve, and I banter about it and play tracks from of some of our favorite artists on next week's
Asheville FM Slumber Party.
