Rhubarb is the chic restaurant located on the southwest corner of
Pack Square in Asheville. The patio seating is a great place to catch all the happenings in downtown Asheville. You can actually grab a meatless meal, catch the sidewalk singers, the silent mimes, and any protests happening all from the patio. It is the perfect place to take an out-of-town guest to soak up the city while you eat a meatless meal. As it gets colder out, you can also hunker down at the bar or enjoy the cozy dining room which is calm and beautiful. But right outside is glimpse into true Asheville and everything urban, busy, and fun about the heart of downtown.
I had a chance to stop in for lunch with Ayana Dusenberry, the editor of
Asheville Grit. I feel so lucky to be a
Grit writer and to have found a friend in her. Rhubarb is a great place to go for drinks and small plates for lunch or a mid-day snack. They only had two vegan options, but the menu opened up significantly when it came to vegetarian options.
I ordered the Seared Squash. It was prepared with olives,
farro and lentils. I had never heard of
farro and our waiter was happy to give me a mini lesson on it. I also had a glass of Pinot Grigio, which is my favorite wine to have with a special meal. It was a great pairing, and I can honestly say that it was the best squash I have ever had. Plus, the plating was lovely.
Ayana had the Pimento Grilled Cheese and simple greens. She enjoyed it as well.
Our food was delivered hot and fast. The entrees were priced reasonably at the $10.00-$12.00 range, our wine was about $8/glass, and the service was amazing. I am definitely looking forward to checking out their dinner menu with my family soon.
