This Thursday, Machinedrum (North Carolina native Travis Stewart) is returning to his old stomping ground from his current homebase in Berlin to grace the Ellington Underground with his consistently groundbreaking beats. Local acts Push/Pull and Bombassic will kick the night off.  Machinedrum released his LP, Human Energy, last year on Ninja Tune, and it's another addition to the artist's stunning body of work. Listening to Machinedrum guarantees delivery of thumping bass and transcendent flights of experimental beat making, and Human Energy brings that transcendent quality to each song. The album opens with the crystaline "Lapis," a soaring track that evolves into the second song, "Morphogene." A morphogene is any gene involved in growth, and it may also be a nod to the locally-made Morphagene, the new tape and microsound music module from modular synthesizer company Make Noise. This song also features vocals from Ruckazoid that amp up the energy and add an element of subtle sway. "I just wanna float in space," he sings, and we gladly follow.  This isn't the only guest appearance on the album, which also features artists like Kevin Hussein, Dawn Richard, and Tosin Abasi. Exploring human energy is at the forefront of this record, and Machinedrum is able to bring us every step of the way. With songs like "Etheric Body Temple" and "Ocean of Thought," the album crosses illusory boundaries between mind, body, and soul and unites them anew in a state of bliss and reverie. It's also going to be a hell of a lot of fun to dance to.  Machinedrum is joined by Push/Pull (Liam Collins), who creates deeply textured beats that roll over listeners in waves of sweet sound. Also on tap: Bombassic, the dynamic duo of BruceyB and Cpt. HyperDrive, whose soulful, sexy sounds will bring you deep into your groove.  Don't miss this opportunity to see one of the best producers out there right now alongside two local favorites. Tickets are $15, and they're on sale now. The show starts at 10 p.m. Facebook page here.
