Asheville Grit and Ashvegas teamed up to share our favorites of the goings-on, the to-dos, and the must-sees.  FRIDAY Risograph Museum Opening Reception @ Asheville BookWorks ​5-7 pm The Riso Museum hosts their opening reception at Asheville BookWorks from 5-7 pm. A Risograph, or Riso, is a stencil-based digital press most often used in 1990's corporate environments that has made a comeback in DIY/maker circles.  The opening exhibit includes print guides and images, Risograph artifacts and pieces, and more.  INTERLUDE Block Party on Walnut St. 6-10 pm Friday, April 29th is the final day of INTERLUDE. The multi-week arts festival has highlighted local and international artists and performers and their cutting-edge work through special events, exhibits, and shows. This Friday, Walnut St. (between Broadway and Carolina Ln) will be the site of a closing block party from 6-10 pm with street performers and beer from the Wedge. This free event will also showcase artist Severn Eaton's collaborative musical instrument, Gas, Food, Lodging. Go play. More details here. BEAT LIFE @ the Mothlight ​9 pm ​BEAT LIFE highlights the best electronic groove-makers around. Starting at 9 pm, the show is hosted by hip-hop artist Bobby FKN White, with acts from turntablist Vietnam Jerry, Koresma, EmE, and headliner Futexture. French Broad River Fest (all weekend!) in Hot Springs  The French Broad River Festival in Hot Springs happens from Friday to Sunday in the beautiful mountain town of Hot Springs (at the Hot Springs Campground and Spa). Things kick off at noon on Friday and wrap up late Saturday night. Headliners Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are bringing the jam band funk, and the program is filled with everything from music to yoga. Tickets range from an all-inclusive weekend pass ($100) to a Saturday day pass that will be sold at the festival for $60.    SATURDAY Sharpen the Blades Saison Fest @ Burial Beer Release 11 am-1 pm Festival 2-10 pm Burial hosts the 3rd annual Sharpen the Blades Saison Fest and Bottle Release. Saisons from all over the state will be featured, and the Terrestrial Paradise Brett Farmhouse beer will be released at 11 am - 1 pm. The festival begins at 2 pm with food from Salt & Smoke and live music from East Coast Dirt and the Ouroboros Boys at 5 pm.  Wander Trees Grand Opening Party @ 842 Haywood Rd 7-9 pm The Wander Trees are a nomadic creative arts community who are opening their brick and mortar on 842 Haywood Rd in West Asheville (that's the old Christian Bookstore, FYI). Get a glimpse of their brand spankin' new shop, community gathering space, and gallery, which will feature The Thru Project, a visual journey along the Appalachian Trail from artist Joshua Niven. The party is from 7-9 pm (note time change from the Weekend Update!). Purple Rain @ Fine Arts Theatre 9:30 pm Friday & Saturday Prince forever, y'all. The Fine Arts Theatre presents Purple Rain for two nights only. A portion of ticket sales go to #YesWeCode, an national initiative started by Prince to assist people from low-income backgrounds in tech training.    SUNDAY Paddlesports Demo Day @ Lake Julian 10 am-2 pm Diamond Brand Outdoors hosts the annual Paddlesports Demo Day at Lake Julian. Try out gear from Liquid Logic, Astral, Hurricane, and others and take advantage of special day-of offers on boats and accessories. There are no skill level requirements.  Asheville Zine Fest @ the Grey Eagle  11-4 pm The Asheville Zine Fest is a completely free celebration of zines, minicomics, and small presses. Highlighting the amazing indie publishing culture, it's an opportunity for zine makers and fans alike to check out what's happening, buy one of a kind and limited edition pieces, and celebrate the local and national zine community.    MONDAY New Belgium Tasting Room Grand Opening  11 am-8 pm The Liquid Center tasting room at New Belgium opens Monday, May 2nd at 11 am. This brand spankin' new tasting room is filled with locally made art and furnishings made from repurposed wood, and there's a deck overlooking the French Broad River. If there's one thing people in Asheville can really get behind, it's more beer.
